Maya and the Sea Dragon

This July Marian St Theatre for Young People is presenting a very exciting children’s work in Sydney’s North Shore - Maya and the Sea Dragon.

Details

The story follows seven year-old Maya who finds a baby sea horse in a rock pool. This is Koru who has been swept from his sea weed home in a big storm. Maya promises to help him and, with a bit of theatre magic, goes on an adventure under the waves into Sydney Harbour. Her new found friend teaches her about life under the waves, and the impact humans have on their aquatic home. However she discovers there’s a bigger secret and she must find the courage to dive even deeper under the sea.

This year is Marian St Theatre for Young People’s 50th birthday, and the script has been created specifically for this. It uses their unique style of audience participation, storytelling, and original music, created by Andrew Chessher. Over the last 50 years the children’s theatre has produced classic works such as Beauty and the Beast, Babe the Sheep Pig, Cinderella and Peter Pan. This is the first time they have been able to undertake an original work in 9 years.
